Jon Keyser is a decorated combat veteran of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a recipient of the Bronze Star Medal and was honored by the Air Force as Intelligence Officer of the Year for his service.
Although he initially planned to be a pilot, Jon decided that, with simultaneous ground wars going on in Iraq and Afghanistan, he could make the biggest impact by serving our country in ground combat.
Jon became an Intelligence Officer and he quickly sought out and volunteered for a sensitive deployment to Iraq. There, he served on an elite special operations team conducting capture/kill missions against our nation’s highest priority targets, including notorious Iranian-backed insurgents and members of Al-Qaeda in Iraq.
The final mission he participated in was to capture or kill the terrorists who, only a few days prior, wounded or killed multiple members of his team. When Jon left Iraq and returned to Virginia, he walked off of the airplane, rented a car, and immediately drove to Arlington National Cemetery to attend the military funeral of a member of his team.
Jon is a rock-solid fiscal conservative and his record in the Colorado House of Representatives proves it.
In 2015, Jon stood up against establishment Republicans in the capitol and voted against the largest budget in Colorado history.
Actions speak louder than words and the American Conservative Union recently recognized Jon’s actions by awarding him a 100% rating.
As a second-generation Coloradan raised in a blue-collar family, Jon had to earn his way in life. At a young age, Jon learned the value of hard work by watching the example his parents set – his father worked in construction and carpentry while his mother worked as a grocery store clerk, and later, as an elementary school teacher at a small Christian school.
Through Jon’s hard work and desire to serve our country, he earned the opportunity to attend the United States Air Force Academy and became the first and only member of his family to graduate from college. After graduating from law school, he became the first member of his family to obtain a graduate degree.
Jon is the son of two blue-collar Colorado workers and he learned early on that if you want something in life you have to put in hard work to make it happen.
Jon was the first member of his family to obtain a college degree when he graduated from the United States Air Force Academy. Years later, he had the opportunity to attend law school at the University of Denver.
Jon worked as a roughneck on an oil and gas drilling rig on the Western Slope, which helped him pay off his law school student loans and allowed him to gain firsthand operational experience in one of Colorado’s most vital industries and job creators – the oil and gas industry.
